When I was young we always lived in packed suburban neighborhoods or large apartment complexes, so buying big quantities of cheap candy was a necessity to take care of all the roving little monsters on Halloween. But now that we live in a rural community, I'm very careful to buy only goodies that I like because we will probably be eating the leftovers ourselves. For years, we have only had "charity trick or treaters". People who drive specifically to our house to show off their little Sponge Bobs and Barbie look a likes, either out of pity or because they know we will be saying, "...take more, take more!'
